On June 15, in taped remarks made to the National Congress of American Indians Mid-Year Conference, President Obama announced Kimberly Teehee as his selection for Senior Policy Advisor for Native American Affairs.
The position- which was announced on February 9 in a speech to the Interior Department by First Lady Michelle Obama- will serve on the Domestic Policy Council and advise the President on issues impacting Indian Country.
Teehee, a member of the Cherokee Nation, has been serving as a Senior Advisor to the House of Representatives Native American Caucus Co-Chair, Congressman Dale Kildee (D-MI) since 1998. Teehee has also previously served as Director of Native American Outreach for the Presidential Inaugural Committee for President Clinton’s second Inauguration, Deputy Director of Native American Outreach at the Democratic National Committee, as well as various positions with the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
